Asherman's syndrome or uterine synechiae is defined as having pelvic adhesions and scarring in the uterine cavity. They can appear isolated or be found throughout the entire cavity.

The extent determines the grade of severity. It depends on whether the affected area is the layer of endometrial cells or more internal layers are affected.
