Reasons for fertility tourism

Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) is not regulated equally in all countries. For this reason, certain techniques or practices are allowed in some, while others ban them totally or partially, either the practice itself or due to the requirements associated.

This is precisely the cause that originated the phenomenon known nowadays as fertility tourism, reproductive care, or cross-border reproductive care. It is described as the practice of traveling abroad in the pursuit of a fertility treatment (surrogacy, egg donation, gender selection...) to have a baby.

We are a german couple and want to have a pgd treatment but we were denied pgd in Germany by the ethics comission. So we have to opt for a treatment abroad. Is there any european country that allows a genetic test on the embryo?

    • Hi!

Testing embryos created in the test tube for hereditary diseases and then selecting them is not allowed in many countries. However, there are a few european countries that allow for a genetic testing:

      -Great Britain
      -France
      -Norway
      -Denmark
      -Belgium
      -Spain
      -Portugal
      -Sweden
      -Netherlands

      Hope this helps,
