The intervention for the extraction of the eggs is simple and is performed under mild anesthesia or sedation. It is an ultrasound-guided operation in which the specialist aspirates the contents of the ovarian follicles. For this reason, it is also known as follicular puncture.
Once the liquid contained in the follicles has been collected in different test tubes, these are sent to the laboratory to be analyzed. It is important that the tubes are always at room temperature, that is, at 37ºC.
