The medication administered for the stimulation of ovarian development allows the maturation of more than one egg, which is what occurs in a natural menstrual cycle. To control the process, frequent blood tests and transvaginal ultrasound scans are necessary to allow us to assess how the ovary is evolving.
The woman will be given hormonal medication for a period of time of approximately 10-12 days. When the ovarian follicles reach the desired size, the patient will inject hCG to induce final maturation and ovulation.
