Hi, I’ve been tested and found to have a heterozygous gene and that it causes abortions. They’re telling me that the next attempt will send me heparin. I wanted to know when it should be taken, whether it’s before or after the embryo transfer. Thank you.

  2. Hi missfertility,

One of the causes of repetead miscarriages is thrombophilia, which leads to problems with clotting and blood supply to the uterus. Some of them are genetic: in this case, finding a mutation in one of the copies of a gene related to blood clotting can lead to a higher tendency to have clots and other associated problems. However, the greatest risk occurs when both copies of the gene are mutated.

Once detected, the most common treatment is heparin, but as I said, it depends on the severity of each case. This anticoagulant is administered during the in vitro fertilization treatment, for the transfer, first weeks of pregnancy and can be continued throughout the pregnancy, to avoid complications, miscarriages or premature births. The treatment, dose, and duration will be determined by the specialist according to your history and background.

In the following article you can find more information regarding miscarriages caused by thrombophilia: Thrombophilia During Pregnancy: Diagnosis and Treatment.

    Hope this helps,

    Best regards

  3. I’m sorry to hear about your mc. This definitely leaves the scar. Hope time heals the best, so I’m glad you’re into it again. With even more strength, hope and desire. I’d be super useful to evaluate the most important aspects of fertility: Eggs, sperm, fallopian tubes and the uterus. As well as hormone levels both of you.. The results of these tests will assist your doc in formulating the type of procedure that will provide you with the optimal chances of achieving a pregnancy. You’ll get the problem nailed, it’s extremelly important for the process! Here’s some of my background. I’m 39 yrs young. Dx – diminished ovarian reserve, low amh. Dh has a kid from his previous marriage. Tried cycles ICSI with own eggs – all failed. Turned to plan B – egg donation. It took us 2 shots to conceive our precious DS. Seems the way’s in life time. Very emotional and long and demanding. But we have no right to give up once we’ve made the decision to create the little miracle. Stay strong and well. All my positive thoughts going your way.
