Differences between sterility and infertility

The concepts of sterility and infertility are normally used as synonyms in situations where a couple cannot have children. However, there is a small nuance that makes the difference between both concepts.

In cases of sterility, fertilization does not even take place and, therefore, gestation does not occur. On the other hand, in situations of infertility, although there is the fertilization of the egg by the spermatozoon, the embryo created does not reach development, that is, the pregnancy does not reach term. Patients with infertility problems may suffer implantation failures, miscarriages, etc.
