With the 2015 legislation regulating surrogacy, in Thailand only heterosexual couples married with fertility problems can carry out this reproductive method. At least one member of the couple must have Thai nationality.
It is also preferred that the surrogate be a close relative, but if the couple does not have a relative who can gestate their child, they can turn to an unknown surrogate. The procedure must be carried out altruistically.
