Bicornuate uterus is a type of uterine anomaly that causes the uterus to resemble a heart, hence the common name heart-shaped uterus. There is a longitudinal septum that forms two horns.
Depending on the extension of the septum, we can distinguish:
- Partial bicornuate uterus
- The septum extends into the uterine cavity only.
- Complete bicornuate uterus
- The septum extends into the uterine cavity and the internal cervical orifice of the uterus.
