Egg retrieval is a step involved in every surrogacy procedure, whether it is classical IVF, IVF/ICSI, or IVF surrogacy. In the latter case, the eggs are collected and fertilized in the lab using the intended father's or donor sperm. Then, the resulting embryos are placed into the uterus of the gestational carrier and not into the mother's.
